Toxic Divorce: A Worbook For Alienated Parents
“Parental alienation is a particularly pernicious outcome of dysfunctional family relationships. Almost every extended family member is involved and affected in one way or another—both the preferred parent and the alienated parent; the maternal and paternal grandparents and other relatives; and all the children. In this book, Dr. Kathleen Reay has focused on the alienated parent. Although these situations are complex and there are no easy answers, Dr. Reay provides empathic support for the alienated parent and much advice that is practical, doable, and realistic. The format of Toxic Divorce as a workbook prompts the reader to think through the author’s suggestions and develop his or her own plan of action. While alienated parents will benefit most from this book, Toxic Divorce will also be useful for other family members, friends, adult children of parental alienation, mental health professionals, and legal professionals.”
William Bernet, M.D., Professor, Department of Psychiatry, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, Nashville, TN and author of Parental Alienation, DSM-5, and ICD-11

“In Toxic Divorce: A Workbook for Alienated Parents Dr. Kathleen Reay has created an easy to read interactive workbook for parents and a primer for both mental health and legal professionals as they all seek to understand the complexity of the continuum of alienation. Reay highlights the differences between the normal preferences created in everyday family life, the dynamics that lead to justifiable estrangement, and the insidious impact of the unjustifiable processes that provoke the pathology that is Parental Alienation Syndrome. But more! This text offers hope to both child and parent victims of these processes as well as perspective to professionals by introducing all concerned to strategies aimed at an ultimate resolution of the heartache created by the processes of alienation.”
Glenn Ross Caddy, Ph.D., A.B.P.P., F.A.P.A., Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Director, The International Institute of Psychology and Behavioral Science
“Toxic Divorce has enormous value as a workbook. Dr. Reay points parents in the right direction regarding handling the distressing emotions of a targeted parent. Parents who are facing the awfulness of parental alienation are encouraged to process their fears, anger and confusing thoughts in constructive ways. Parents are coached to understand counterproductive thinking and how to get rid of it. All targeted parents are overwhelmed with powerlessness, grief and loss, often having no idea where to turn. One of the most valuable parts of Toxic Divorce is how to cope with the grief and loss and the myriad insults to their sensibilities in what is right and what is wrong. Toxic Divorce is a must read for mental health professionals.”

Amazon.ca Customer Book Review, September 19, 2011 – “The Very Best Book on Parental Alienation Ever”
“There are several books written on parental alienation and this one tops them all. It’s easy to read and understand. I’ve bought workbooks before on other topics and never found the exercises were that great. But in this book the exercises are really useful and fit into real life. The author did an excellent job describing the emotional roller coaster ride and kinds of negative thinking that alienated parents experience. It was very validating and has helped me resolve much pain and agony. There are so many useful learning skills to manage hurt, rejection, anxiety, fear, panic, depression, grief, loss, anger, stress, and shame. Reading this book has empowered me. I highly recommend it.” See http://ow.ly/dXC1S
